Welcome, to 1956.
If you love your town’s annual Christmas tree lighting ceremony, you cheer on the home team every Friday night, and you know your local bartenders by name…you’ve come to the right place.
I’m Jess and I started 1956 Design Co. to help small, blue collar, and mom + pop style businesses thrive in an ever changing world. Oftentimes, as a smaller business, you tend to have the greatest need to take advantage of irresistible packaging or a creative social media presence, yet you have much more limited resources than that of a big box style competitor. That’s where we come in.
What you do is special. Here at 1956, we want the world to have the opportunity to fall in love with you, and we are so excited to make that happen.
Why 1956?
1956 Design Co. is named in honor of my grandparents, all of which were married in June of 1956. Much of their values, traditions, and Appalachian culture, shaped not only how I run my business, but my design style as well.
Ron and Pat (left) sparked my love of entrepreneurship by providing me with a first class seat as they made a name for themselves in the construction industry for over 30 years. I was fortunate enough to witness them lead their team, go the extra mile on every job site, and take pride in always furthering their craft. My grandpa carried a pocket notebook that contained measurements or notes for different jobs, which also acted as my first canvas, learning to doodle birds and houses as he let me waste page after page.
John and Margaret (right) were in many ways the catalyst for my love of pop culture. They saved just about everything, and getting to flip through countless old magazines, records, and photo albums shaped the way I viewed the world and everything in it. They taught me about honoring tradition, about commitment, loyalty, and found family. While they always paid tribute to the past, they were simultaneously open to the future. I don’t know that I was even in kindergarten when they purchased their first computer, one that I was always allowed to change the desktop to whatever masterpiece I had created in Paint that week.
